Aceh Clinic
The Need
Yayasan Bumi Sehat (YBS) is running a health clinic in Gampong Cot, Meulaboh,
Aceh.
Within walking distance of the Bumi Sehat clinic approx 10,000 to 12,000
people survive. Most are unemployed, depressed and all are malnourished.
YBS is available 24 hours for emergency service. Our daily clinic patients
include those suffering from skin conditions, coughs (sometimes TB), minor
illnesses, tropical diseases (exacerbated by poverty) ie. malaria, dengue,
leprosy, and trauma patients from burns and motorbike accidents.
Daily we offer prenatal care. Birth services 24 hrs, postpartum care and
breastfeeding support. Due to malnutrition there is a grave risk of maternal and
infant death.
Our services include:
-
*General medical care -
*Maternal Health and Infant
survival services -
*Capacity building for Acehinese
medical personnel -
*Capacity building for community
health education outreach to families, especially the women -
*Community support as a bridge
between large NGO's and the communities in need. As an Indonesian NGO we have
the communication and cultural skills to make things happen on the grass
roots level.
The Response
For this reason Rotary Club of Bali Ubud has sponsored the building of a
fully equipped maternal and child health clinic with funds received from “The
Rotary Solidarity Fund in South Asia”, BAYAR through INDOGERM and the RC Bali
Ubud Tsunami Fund.
This clinic building is earthquake resistant, with waste water gardens for
the effluent, and an independent energy supply (there is still no electricity in
our region of Aceh). This clinic is a turn key clinic, and when completed will
include furnishings and medical equipment.
The clinic construction includes:
-
2 birthing rooms;
-
1 check-up/treatments room with 2
beds;
-
1 dispensary
-
1 room for administration
office/reception;
-
2 overnight room with bathroom
for patients in need of medical treatment;
-
1 reception/office room
-
1 staff room/meeting room with
kitchen, also used for nutrition workshops;
-
1 storage room;
-
1 toilet/laundry room; -
open space for workshops and
waiting family members;
as well as
-
land preparation
-
electrical autonomy
-

The moving date is expected to be
possible end of May (6 months after signing the construction contract) and
